Puzzle content and the daily columns are generated using Claude (claude-sonnet-5-5) by Anthropic. This covers Headline Decoder, The Indirect, Contextual Connections, Pop Culture Flashback, Riddle of the Day, Daily Hot Take, Real or Retcon?, Comic Connections, Before or After?, Cover or Clickbait?, Shonen Showdown, After Hours, and the column that accompanies The Quip. The Quip’s daily word itself is drawn from a word list, not generated by AI.

Sources

Daily news puzzles are based on current news stories from third-party news services and feeds, including NewsData.io. The comics games draw on the Grand Comics Database, and the anime games on AniList.

Images

The daily Cartoon of the Day is conceived with gpt-6-astra and drawn with gpt-image-2.5-sunburst. Cover or Clickbait? covers are generated with gpt-image-2.5-flare, and Shonen Showdown fighter and battle-environment art with gpt-image-2. All four models are made by OpenAI.

Editorial voices

The editorial personas on this platform — Mateo, Aisha, Kai, and Silas — are AI-generated voices in the tradition of named editorial columnists. They are not real individuals.

How AI is used in publishing

Claude scores each day’s candidate news stories and runs automated quality checks before a daily puzzle publishes. The rules, formats and standards it applies are written by a human, who monitors the results. Shonen Showdown battles and After Hours rounds are approved by a human before they run. The Daily Quip does not use AI to respond to readers or to operate chatbots.
